Jason Momoa is "finally" fulfilling his DC Comics dream of playing Lobo, and studio co-head James Gunn is happy to give waiting fans a proper look at the character in a brand-new teaser.

Gunn dropped the video on Friday, presenting a preview of Momoa's debut as Lobo in the upcoming *Supergirl* film. The movie picks up following the events of 2025's *Superman*, and sees the titular character (portrayed by *House of the Dragon* star Milly Alcock) celebrating her 21st birthday by flying across the galaxy with her dog, Krypto. But when a young alien girl seeks Kara's help to take revenge on the one who killed her family, she runs into all sorts of unsavory characters.

Enter the galactic motorcycle-riding bounty hunter that Momoa has vowed he was born to play.

In the new footage, Momoa is seen stepping out of his trailer and smoking a cigar. Someone off-camera asks the actor if he has any comments about playing Lobo, to which he simply says, "Finally."

Then, a scene featuring Momoa as Lobo making a fiery entrance flashes by, highlighted by the character's signature laugh. Finally indeed.

The story of *Supergirl*, from screenwriter Ana Nogueira, is based on the events of writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely's acclaimed comic book *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*. Matthias Schoenaerts will portray villain Krem of the Yellow Hills; David Krumholtz will play Supergirl's father, Zor-El; Emily Beecham will play her mother, Alura In-Ze; and Eve Ridley (*3 Body Problem*) plays Ruthye Marye Knoll, the young alien who seeks out Kara's help.

While Momoa previously played the Atlantean hero Aquaman in multiple movies from DC Studios' previous era, the role of Lobo is one the man has been after for years.

"He's been talking about it forever," DC Studios co-head Peter Safran told ** at an earlier *Supergirl* trailer preview event in New York City. "He was talking about it when he was doing *Aquaman* with me. He was talking about, 'I'd rather be doing Lobo.' But when the day was announced that we got this job [leading DC], he texted both of us, all caps, 'LOBO,' 10 exclamation marks. That was it...And a few Xs."

The man himself has never been shy about his desire to play a role that feels very true to his own motorcycle-wheeling image.

"I collect comics, and I don't do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo because I'm like, 'Hello? It's the perfect role,'" Momoa said in a previous interview. "I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it's a f--- yeah. I haven't received that call, so I don't want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play or ask me to audition, I'm there."**

When his casting was officially announced in December, Momoa referred to that same interview, saying, "They called."

There's a lot more that awaits fans when *Supergirl* drops in theaters this summer.

During a trailer preview event in New York City last December, director Craig Gillespie (*I, Tonya*, *Cruella*) told a group of reporters and influencers, "She's got a lot of baggage and a lot of demons coming into this, which is very different than where Superman is in his life." He praised Alcock for leaning into the complexity of all that, adding, "It's really surprising, the headspace she's in and the journey she goes on, for a typical superhero movie, which this is not."
