Doctors have since discovered a "rare cyst" on his spine, according to TMZ
Quinton Aaron has been placed on life support after collapsing in his home.
In a report on Jan. 26, The Blind Side actor's wife, Margarita Aaron, told Fox News that her husband was intubated on Friday, Jan. 23, to address his "sporadic" breathing. Quinton, who played Michael Oher in the 2009 film, was diagnosed with a severe blood infection and has since been placed on life support as a result, Margarita said.
At first, Quinton's doctors weren't entirely sure of the root cause of the actor's condition, Margarita said, save for the fact that it's related to his blood. "He's still on antibiotics, blanket antibiotics to just cover whatever the issue might be with regard to his blood," Margarita told Fox News.
However, a new report from TMZ claims that a cyst was discovered on the actor's spine. According to the outlet, doctors are running tests to see if the cyst is benign, but back surgery could be the next course of action.

"Although he seemed like he was a little lucid, he was not very responsive," Margarita continued. "I did at least get a thumbs up out of him when I chatted with him, which was promising."
Margarita added that Quinton, 41, seems to be less reliant on the endotracheal tube and breathing assistance as of late, and he's "doing some of the work as well." Quinton is set to undergo more imaging to help determine a specific cause, she added.
"He's a fighter. He's a very strong fighter, and you know, he is making progress day by day, and I believe God's got him, and he believes God's got him," Margarita said.
Quinton was taken to the hospital late last week after he fell while walking up the stairs in his apartment, TMZ initially reported on Jan. 25. Quinton's legs suddenly stopped functioning, which led to him collapsing, the outlet reported, citing Quinton's manager.
The actor's manager also added that Aaron is in stable condition and has been able to communicate with his team and family, per TMZ.

Quinton faced another health scare in February 2024 when he was hospitalized for coughing up blood and a fever, TMZ previously reported. At the time, his medical team believed Quinton could be experiencing Type A flu and pneumonia.
A GoFundMe page meant to benefit Quinton and his family has raised more than $38,000 as of Jan. 27. The post's description states that the actor's hospitalization has been "sudden, frightening, and overwhelming for his loved ones," who are facing "an immense emotional and financial burden" as a result.

In the last few years, Quinton has been candid about his weight loss journey, and in October 2025, he revealed a major milestone: losing 200 lbs. In a post on Instagram, the actor shared two photos of himself to illustrate his transformation.
"I am overwhelmed and blessed to announce that I have reached another cool Milestone in my life," Quinton wrote in the caption. "Today when weighing myself, I noticed that I reached the 200 pound marker."
The actor added that he's just 55 lbs. away from his overall goal of weighing 320 lbs. "I GOT THIS!!!" he concluded the post.
