After having stomach pain all day, Briones finally decided to go to the ER, where a doctor recognized her from the show — and also diagnosed her with appendicitis

"They knew [who I was], they took great care of me," she told Entertainment Tonight

Isa Briones plays a doctor on The Pitt — but she got a patient's perspective while filming season 2.

The actress, who plays Dr. Trinity Santos, spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the season 2 premiere of HBO's medical drama on Jan. 7 in Los Angeles. The Pitt follows a single 15-hour shift in a Pittsburgh emergency room over the course of a season. But this season, Briones swapped her role of doctor for patient when she underwent an emergency appendectomy.

Briones, 26, first revealed her appendectomy in an Instagram post on Nov. 4, 2025 by sharing a photo in a hospital bed and another of an appendix plush with a tag that read, "Appendix R.I.P." Speaking with ET, Briones explained the bizarre experience of becoming a patient after playing a doctor all day for the show's forthcoming season 2.

"It was very funny, because I was on set all day in scrubs, and I was like, 'Huh, I have a stomach ache,' " she said, joking that she initially thought the pain came from the burger bar on set or "bad gas."

When the pain became too much to bear, Briones finally decided to take a trip to the emergency room, where she became a real-life patient. Coincidentally, she said, one of the doctors recognized her from the show.

"They were so wonderful. The first doctor I saw was, like, typing, and [said], 'The Pitt, right?' " she recalled. "They knew [who I was], they took great care of me."

Briones was diagnosed with appendicitis, which is an inflammation of the appendix that causes pain in the lower right area of the stomach, according to Mayo Clinic. In addition to pain, appendicitis is marked by nausea and vomiting, a loss of appetite, a low fever, constipation or diarrhea, and/or bloating.

Treatment for the condition generally involves antibiotics and surgical removal of the appendix, per Mayo Clinic.

Being the patient instead of the provider — especially after playing a doctor all day — was an odd experience, Briones said, mostly because she had accrued so much medical knowledge from her time on the show.

"It was weird, to be in the gurney and reading my vitals and like, 'I know what that means! And yeah, I'm good! Everything's fine,' " she said.
